The Meade County Equalization and Planning Department is warning residents about scam emails falsely claiming to be from the county.
Officials say the fraudulent messages often include fake invoices, payment demands or instructions to send money related to supposed planning applications or county services.
Residents who receive one of these emails are urged not to respond, click on any links, open attachments or provide money or personal information. Officials say the safest action is to delete the message immediately.
Anyone unsure about the legitimacy of an email should contact the department directly using the official contact information listed on the county’s website. County officials are also asking residents to help spread the warning to prevent others from being scammed.
