A federal grand jury has indicted a Nigerian man on multiple fraud charges tied to the alleged embezzlement of funds from Prairie Wind Casino & Hotel in Pine Ridge, according to U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons.
The indictment, returned in March 2026, charges Kenneth Godwin with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and unauthorized access to a protected computer in furtherance of fraud. Federal prosecutors allege that between May 2023 and March 2026, Godwin conspired with others while living in Nigeria to steal money from the casino, which is owned and operated by the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
If convicted, Godwin faces a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count, three years of supervised release, mandatory payments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and possible restitution.
The FBI investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Patterson.
