A large gun safe believed to be stolen was discovered dumped along a county road Wednesday morning, according to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies found the safe during patrols on Ricard Road on May 6. Officials said the safe was so heavy it could not be moved with a pickup truck and had to be removed using equipment from the highway department.
Investigators said the safe appeared to have been forcibly opened, with a hole cut into the bottom rather than accessed using a combination. The damage and the manner in which it was discarded indicate the safe may have been stolen, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may be missing a gun safe to contact investigators. No information has been released about where the safe originated or what it may have contained.
