A residential structure fire Sunday evening in New Underwood was contained to a single alarm, with no injuries reported, according to fire officials.
The New Underwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 7:53 p.m. on May 10 to a report of a fire at a home in the 200 block of South A Avenue. First-arriving firefighters found fire and smoke within the walls and roof assembly of the residence.
Crews were able to successfully contain the fire to the structure of origin, protecting nearby homes, infrastructure and other improvements. No injuries to firefighters, civilians or domestic animals were reported.
The Red Cross Serving Central and Western South Dakota is assisting the occupants of the home.
Several agencies responded to the scene, including Pennington County 911, the New Underwood Volunteer Fire Department, the U.S. Air Force 28th Bomb Wing/Ellsworth Air Force Base Fire Department, Box Elder and Rapid Valley volunteer fire departments, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Fire Department ambulance service, West River Electric Cooperative, New Underwood Public Works, local neighbors and the Red Cross.
