The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday at an underage party near Whitewood.
According to a news release, dispatch received a call at 12:36 a.m. reporting a possible underage party at a residence north of Whitewood. When deputies arrived, they found a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers on scene immediately began providing medical aid and requested an ambulance. The juvenile’s condition has not been released.
During the investigation, authorities determined that 22-year-old William Westburg of Whitewood fired the weapon involved in the incident. Westburg was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault, social hosting, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing.
