South Dakota officials are reporting strong revenue growth for April, pointing to continued economic momentum across the state.
Gov. Larry Rhoden and the Bureau of Finance and Management announced that April revenues exceeded legislative estimates by $12.1 million. Sales tax collections rose 12.7% compared to the same month last year.
State officials highlighted several economic indicators supporting the revenue gains. South Dakota recorded a 2.3% unemployment rate in March 2026, the lowest in the nation. In addition, the state’s gross domestic product grew 3.0% in the final quarter of 2025, ranking second-fastest among all states.
Bureau of Finance and Management Commissioner Jim Terwilliger said continued expansion in key industries is helping drive the positive results.
