A pedestrian was seriously injured Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle at a busy Rapid City intersection, according to police.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 9:35 p.m. on May 12 to the intersection of Sixth Street and Omaha Street following a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian. When emergency crews arrived, they found the injured individual at the scene. A medical unit transported the pedestrian to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Preliminary findings from the Rapid City Police Department indicate the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Omaha Street and had a green light while entering the intersection at Sixth Street. Investigators say the pedestrian was in the roadway at the time of the collision.
Police noted that alcohol appears to be a factor on the part of the pedestrian, though the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
The department’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team (CART) is continuing to examine the incident. Authorities have not released additional details about the identities of those involved or whether any charges could be filed.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact Rapid City police.
