A Rapid City woman died following a two-vehicle crash Thursday on U.S. Highway 16 about six miles west of Rapid City.
Preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a 1996 Toyota Corolla entered the highway from Busted Five Court and was struck by a westbound 2019 GMC Sierra. The impact caused the Corolla to spin onto the north shoulder, ejecting a passenger.
The 76-year-old passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries. The 56-year-old driver of the Corolla, also not wearing a seat belt, sustained life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Monument Health. Authorities said the passenger later died.
The driver of the GMC, a 58-year-old man from Newcastle, Wyoming, suffered minor injuries and was wearing a seat belt.
Names have not been released pending family notification. The crash remains under investigation, and information released so far is preliminary.
