A Box Elder man was arrested late May 15 after a reported confrontational encounter led police to discover a stolen firearm and open alcohol containers in a vehicle.
Officers were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to the 3500 block of Black Fox Drive after a resident reported a suspicious incident. The reporting party told police they were outside when an unknown pickup truck approached. The occupants allegedly asked for a cigarette and invited the individual into the vehicle. When the offer was declined, the occupants became confrontational before leaving the area.
Police located the truck a short time later and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, officers detained the occupants and identified one of them as 20-year-old Diego Perez of Box Elder.
Authorities reported finding several open alcohol containers inside the vehicle, along with a loaded revolver that had been reported stolen during an August 2025 vehicle burglary.
Perez, who police say is on parole and had been released from prison earlier that day, was arrested on charges including possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving stolen property and open container in a motor vehicle.
He was taken to the Pennington County Jail.
