A new sports shooting complex north of Rapid City has already exceeded its projected usage just six months after opening, officials said.
The Pete Lien and Sons Sports Shooting Complex has recorded more than 35,000 visits, surpassing its initial annual estimate of 30,000, project lead John Kanta said. The facility has also sold more than 830 memberships.
Officials say the structured environment and emphasis on safety have drawn consistent usage, even in poor weather. The complex offers multiple ranges and is staffed by safety officers.
In addition to competitions, the complex provides training and education for gun owners, particularly newcomers, with a focus on safe handling and responsible use.
