Two juveniles were detained early Tuesday after police responded to reports of gunfire in a Rapid City neighborhood and discovered a loaded, illegally modified shotgun.
Officers were dispatched just after 12:30 a.m. to the 600 block of Lindbergh Avenue, where they and nearby patrol units reported hearing gunshots. Police located spent shotgun shells before spotting two individuals entering a vehicle nearby.
During a traffic stop officers found two juvenile males in the back seat with a shotgun on the floor. The juveniles refused commands to exit the vehicle and resisted officers before being taken into custody.
Police said the shotgun was loaded and had been illegally shortened. Both juveniles were referred to the juvenile justice system. Authorities also noted one was on probation and the other on parole at the time of the incident.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
