The South Dakota Department of Education has awarded nearly $50,000 in Farm to School grants to six programs aimed at expanding access to local foods and agricultural education.
The grants, distributed through the department’s Division of Child and Adult Nutrition Services, support efforts to increase schools’ capacity to purchase locally sourced foods and provide hands-on learning opportunities tied to agriculture.
Among the recipients for 2026 are YMCA of the Black Hills ($5,193.75) and Youth and Family Services ($14,532.79).
Each participating program was required to form a team and outline project goals, timelines and sustainability plans as part of the application process.
