The South Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a proposed temporary closure of part of the Racetrack Trail tied to upcoming Interstate 90 improvements.
The closure, required during construction between exits 32 and 37, would affect a segment of the trail from the Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad crossing to the Centennial Trail connection. Work will include pavement replacement, drainage upgrades, and reconstruction of the exit 34 interchange.
Officials say the closure would last about one year while a nearby borrow site is active, after which the trail will be restored. The Federal Highway Administration is considering a “de minimis” impact determination, meaning the project would not significantly affect the trail’s protected features.
Public comments can be submitted online at the project website or directly to SDDOT.
