An unattended campfire along a U.S. Forest Service road in Pennington County sparked a fire that burned a campsite, Sunday afternoon.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office said the people who started the campfire had left the area to drive in the Black Hills when the blaze ignited. The fire destroyed a tent and personal belongings.
No injuries were reported.
Passersby spotted the fire and extinguished it using water from a nearby creek, officials said.
