Police responding to reports of gunshots early May 25 detained two juveniles and recovered a stolen firearm, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched around 2 a.m. to the 100 block of Surfwood Drive after witnesses reported hearing shots. While on scene, police saw a male walking in the area who refused commands to stop and entered a nearby apartment building.
Officers followed and said they heard the male discard an object in a hallway. He was detained and identified as a juvenile. The discarded item was a loaded pistol magazine missing several rounds.
Police then contacted two nearby females, one of whom was found with a pistol that matched the magazine, officials said. Investigators determined the male had handed the gun to the female just before officers made contact. The firearm was reported stolen.
The male and female, both juveniles, were taken into custody and referred to the juvenile justice system. No injuries were reported.
