The South Dakota Department of Transportation will host a public meeting next week to present plans for a reconstruction project along U.S. Highway 85 in Lawrence County.
The open house is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mountain Time at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center, 150 Sherman St. in Deadwood. Transportation officials will outline the proposed design for the highway segment stretching from the Wyoming state line to U.S. Highway 14A, also known as Cheyenne Crossing.
A brief presentation will begin shortly after 5:30 p.m., followed by an informal open house format. Attendees will be able to speak one-on-one with project designers and SDDOT representatives, ask questions and provide feedback on the project.
State transportation officials said the meeting is intended to share information and gather input from the public as planning moves forward. Residents, business owners and commuters who regularly use the corridor are encouraged to attend.
The project is being developed in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations, according to SDDOT.
Written comments may be submitted at the meeting or online through June 19, 2026.
