Rapid City set a new tourism record in 2025, drawing nearly 3.9 million visitors and generating $776.2 million in spending, according to Visit Rapid City.
CEO Ally Formanek presented the findings from the group’s 2025 Tourism Economic Impact Report to the Rapid City Council on May 18, describing the year as a continuation of strong post-pandemic growth.
The report showed visitation rose about 1.3% from 2024, matching levels last seen in 2021, while spending increased in key sectors such as lodging, food and recreation.
Tourism supported about 7,700 jobs in the area — roughly one in 10 local jobs — and generated $117.3 million in tax revenue, officials said.
Formanek said that revenue helps offset local costs, adding that without it, households would need to pay significantly more in taxes to maintain services.
Officials expect tourism to remain strong in 2026, with early indicators pointing to another busy travel season.
