Fifteen South Dakota legislative candidates have issued a cease-and-desist letter over campaign mailers they say used their names and images without consent and falsely implied endorsements.
The postcards, sent by Dakota First Action, featured candidates alongside gubernatorial candidate Toby Doeden. Rep. Spencer Gosch said the mailers inaccurately suggested he supports Doeden, despite backing another candidate.
“It implied endorsements that don’t exist,” Gosch said.
Doeden denied involvement, saying he has “no current affiliation” with the PAC.
The group, chaired by former lawmaker Drew Dennert, did not respond to requests for comment. Candidates said they hope the mailers do not mislead voters ahead of the primary.
