The South Dakota Arts Council has awarded six $5,000 grants to support community arts and cultural projects tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
The funding comes through SDAC’s America 250 Community Arts program, which drew 31 applications from across the state. The grants support public events scheduled between May 18 and Sept. 30, 2026, aimed at highlighting local history, culture and civic engagement, while expanding access to the arts.
Selected recipients include Washington Pavilion Management Inc. in Sioux Falls, which will host free July concerts featuring the Municipal Band; Yankton Area Arts, planning a June 30 public celebration with a concert and exhibit; and the Bison Education Enrichment Foundation, organizing a storytelling and youth theater project focused on rural prairie life.
Additional awards went to the Codington County Historical Society for a themed summer festival in Watertown; the Dacotah Prairie Museum for a live art event during the Brown County Fair in Aberdeen; and the City of Yankton Task Force for America Celebrate 250 for two July 2 performances blending history, music and storytelling.
All events are free and designed to encourage public participation while contributing to statewide anniversary celebrations.
