Pennington County election officials are urging voters to prepare ahead of South Dakota’s primary election on Tuesday, June 2, as absentee voting nears its deadline and polling details take effect.
About 3,800 absentee ballots had been cast as of Wednesday evening, including roughly 3,300 completed in person, according to the Pennington County Auditor’s Office. Absentee voting must be completed at the auditor’s office by Monday, June 1.
The office has relocated to 900 Concourse Drive, and voters will not be able to cast ballots there on Election Day. Instead, voters must report to their assigned precincts between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Voters can verify polling locations, registration status and view sample ballots through the South Dakota Secretary of State’s voter portal.
Election officials also emphasized that no votes are tabulated before Election Day. Absentee ballots will begin processing Tuesday morning, with scanning scheduled for the afternoon. Results will not be released until polls close.
Local ballots include both partisan and nonpartisan races, with competitive contests across federal, state and local offices.
