In other area election results, Mayoral races showed Tana Nichols defeating Kathy Skorzewski in Hill City by a 187 to 76 margin. Jack Parks Jr earned a 40 vote win over Aaron Clendenin in Piedmont and Sara Fitzgerald defeated Bruce White 176 to 94 to be elected Mayor of Whitewood.
Butte County Voters overwhelmingly passed a resolution to create an ordinance to prohibit data centers in the county. 2,005 of the 2,569 votes were in favor of that initiated measure.
The District 1 County commission race saw Doug Larson defeat Cory Tolley by a 76-24% margin
Custer County voters approved a resolution for an opt out and vote to be held for fire protection. That referendum passed by a 55-45% margin. And a recount is in play for the at-large county commission seat where Marty Mechaley, Craig Hindle and Jesse Sorenson finished in the top 3 of the 8 person race. Mike Linde was 4th with 792 votes just 31 behind Sorensen and within the margin to trigger a recount.
A recount is also possible in the race for the at-large county commission seat in Fall River County. Vince Logue pulled 36% of the vote, Deborah Russell was 2nd with 32% and Joe Falkenburg finished 14 votes short in the race for the 2nd seat.
Lyle Norton garnered 61% of the vote compared to William Scott Davis with 39% in the race for Fall River County Sheriff
Lawrence County could also see a recount in their at-large county commission race. Mike Davies led the way with 29% of the vote with Robert Haiwick earning 21%. Eric Jennings was 3rd with 1794 votes leaving Brandon Flanagan just 9 votes short of the 3rd seat triggering a possible recount.
In Meade County commission races, Glen Haines defeated 3 challengers earning 33% of the votes while Philip Nelson earned another seat by a 65-35% margin.
