Patrick Ross pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, along with three counts each of wire fraud and money laundering in a scheme that stole millions from the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
Court filings show Ross admitted taking 166 checks totaling more than $4.7 million from the tribe’s Tribal Employment Rights Office and depositing them into his personal account. He also paid more than $2.1 million in kickbacks to co-worker Buffy Redfish.
Ross faces up to 20 years in prison on each count and is scheduled for sentencing on August 24. Redfish, who pleaded guilty in November, is set to be sentenced June 29.
