Rapid City officials are warning the public about a scam email posing as the City’s Planning Commission and requesting immediate wire transfers for development fees.
The message, which appears official and includes the City seal, demands payment of about $5,000 and threatens project delays if funds are not sent. Officials say the email is fraudulent.
Community Development Director Vicki Fisher emphasized the City will never request payment via email or require immediate wire transfers.
Residents are urged to verify sender addresses—official City emails come from domains like @rcgov.org—and avoid clicking suspicious links. Anyone receiving the scam is encouraged to contact the Community Development Department to verify information.
