A Sunday Morning shooting at the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City left the victim injured, the suspect dead and an officer injured after a manhunt.
John Troy Lee, 58, of Rapid City, was identified as the suspect in a Sunday morning shooting at the fairgrounds around 8:45am. The victim was taken to a hospital, but officials have not released the person’s name or condition.
Authorities said Lee fled the area in a white Chevrolet or GMC pickup after the shooting and was considered armed and dangerous.
The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety later located Lee in the southwestern part of the reservation following tips from residents. Officials said Lee opened fire on, injuring one officer, who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Lee was killed during the exchange of gunfire.
Multiple agencies, including Rapid City police, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol and tribal law enforcement, are investigating.
