Authorities responded to reports of gunfire near the 1700 block of North 7th Street just after 3:00 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings at the intersection of Star Avenue and North 7th Street.
Surveillance footage showed a suspect vehicle leaving the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1720 North 7th Street before shots were fired into the air from the moving vehicle.
At approximately 5:35 a.m., officers located the suspect vehicle at a Maverick Gas Station on Haines Avenue. The four occupants were found inside a nearby store and detained. Police also observed an open alcohol container in the vehicle and recovered a loaded handgun, which was later confirmed to be stolen.
Nineteen-year-old Ashton Shaw of Rapid City was identified as the individual who fired the weapon. He was arrested on a felony charge for Discharge of a Firearm from a Moving Vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Lilianna Patton, was taken into custody for Possession of a Controlled Substance and placed on a Parole Hold. Both Shaw and Patton were transported to the Pennington County Jail.
Meanwhile, the two juveniles involved were detained and referred to the appropriate juvenile justice authorities.
