A 19-year-old Rapid City man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly assaulting a liquor store employee and threatening others with a knife.
Police were dispatched around 5:15 p.m. on June 14 to a business at 1020 N. Lacrosse Street following reports of an assault with a weapon. When officers arrived, they found the suspect being held on the ground by bystanders.
The suspect, identified as Destin Rencountre, (ren-con-trey) was taken into custody. Officers reported a strong smell of alcohol coming from him.
According to witnesses, Rencountre entered the store, took liquor from the shelf, and told employees he would not pay. He then threw a bottle at an employee and began threatening people with a knife.
An employee and a customer were able to subdue Rencountre and take the knife away before police arrived.
