Rapid City Area Schools announced Wednesday it is postponing the Area 6 election recount, originally scheduled for Thursday, due to a disagreement between the candidates over the third-party observer required to monitor the process.
Challenger Brian Johnson requested the recount after losing to incumbent Jamie Clapham by 111 votes. While the district did not publicly state a reason for the delay, Johnson cited the lack of consensus on the neutral party as the cause.
The recount will proceed once both candidates agree on an observer and confirm availability, according to an updated statement from the district.
