The National Weather service says record or near-record heat will be the rule across western and central South Dakota with temperatures ranging from the 90’s to 105 degrees today. A heat advisory has been issued for central South Dakota. Officials remind people to Drink plenty of water. Wear light, loose fitting clothing. If working outdoors, take plenty of breaks. Try working early or late in the day. Meanwhile drought conditions are holding steady across the state with only a small portion of the southwest reporting severe drought. The state’s overall Drought Severity and Coverage Index is down 10 percent from last week. The monitor estimates drought conditions currently effect a population of just over 377,000 people across the state.
