Construction on a new traffic signal at the entrance to the Rapid City Landfill is set to begin next Tuesday, with work expected to continue through August 2.
During construction, motorists should expect lane closures and periodic delays when accessing the landfill and 24/7 site. Officials are urging residents to allow extra travel time and use caution entering and exiting the area.
Drivers are reminded to stay in designated traffic lanes and avoid bypassing queued vehicles, as doing so could create safety hazards and congestion along Highway 79. The entrance will be limited to one inbound and one outbound lane throughout the project.
To help reduce delays, residents are encouraged to use alternative drop-off locations at Nickel Street and Fitzgerald Stadium for yard waste, cardboard, and recycling during landfill business hours.
Questions can be directed to the Rapid City Solid Waste Division at 605-355-3496.
