Officials have lifted all evacuation orders for the South Fork Fire near Crawford, Nebraska, as crews gain control of the blaze that has burned nearly 40,000 acres and is now 80% contained.
Firefighters, aided by scooper aircraft capable of collecting and dropping large volumes of water without landing, have made significant progress in slowing the fire’s spread. With conditions improving, officials say response operations will begin scaling back.
Despite the positive developments, trail closures remain in place for the White River Trail south of Highway 20. Authorities are also urging the public to drive cautiously within the fire area and remain alert for any changes.
Support resources, including a financial relief fund, are available for residents impacted by the fire.
