With one week to go, city leaders say preparations for Rapid City’s America 250 “Real America Birthday Bash” are on schedule.
Events will run July 1–5 across Main Street Square, the 6th Street Corridor, and Memorial Park. Organizers finalized details at a Wednesday news conference, highlighting the return of a downtown parade for the first time since 2019.
The parade will take place the evening of July 2, a deliberate move to avoid conflicting with July 4 celebrations in other Black Hills communities. More than 100 floats are expected, and officials are urging attendees to arrive early, as downtown parking will be restricted after 5 p.m.
Mayor Jason Salamun said the goal is to make Rapid City a regional destination while still supporting surrounding communities’ Independence Day traditions.
