The Unified Judicial System (UJS) of South Dakota is launching a new mission, vision, and strategic plan to guide its operations through 2028, emphasizing fairness, integrity, and excellence. Developed since July 2024 with input from judges, staff, and justice partners, the plan was crafted with the National Center for State Courts. A Strategic Planning Committee, supported by six subcommittees, identified six pillars: enhancing access to justice, building public trust, improving court operations, ensuring courthouse safety, advancing technology, and fostering a strong workforce. Approved by the South Dakota Supreme Court, the plan aims to deliver an impartial, accessible, and trusted judicial system. Chief Justice Steven R. Jensen called it a promise and call to action to uphold high standards. Funded by the State Justice Institute, the full plan is available at https://ujs.sd.gov/about-us/strategic-plan.
