Rapid City is gearing up for its annual Independence Day fireworks show this Friday, July 4, launching around 9:30 p.m. from Executive Golf Course. The 20-minute display, choreographed by J&M Displays. If weather interferes, the backup date is Saturday.
Before the show, the Rapid City Municipal Band will perform patriotic tunes at Memorial Park Band Shell starting at 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for optimal viewing.
Mayor Jason Salamun says the holiday weekend features more than just fireworks—expect concerts, car races, baseball, and time well spent with loved ones.
Fire Chief Jason Culberson reminds the public that fireworks are mostly banned inside city limits except for small novelty items like sparklers. He urges caution and safety around grills, fire sources, and anywhere fireworks are allowed.
Police Chief Don Hedrick also encourages smart choices behind the wheel: plan a ride, call a friend, or use ride-share if you’ve been drinking.
Alternate fireworks displays in town include tonight at Elks Golf Course, Friday at Arrowhead Country Club and Black Hills Speedway, and Saturday at the Post 22 Firecracker Tournament.
Expect heavy traffic near the show and limited access around Executive Golf Course. The city recommends parking at The Monument lots, Founders Park, or using the downtown ramp.
