Talk of a visit to Rapid City by Vice President JD Vance has been circulating—but there has been no official confirmation. Multiple inquiries to the Office of the Vice President had gone unanswered, and both the White House and Secret Service redirected questions back to Vance’s office.
Amid the uncertainty, the Pennington County Democratic Party is organizing a protest and voter registration event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Memorial Park, citing reports of Vance’s possible presence in town.
Social media buzz suggested he may be appearing at The Monument, but venue staff stated there are no events scheduled involving the vice president on Thursday or Friday.
Local officials, including the mayor’s office and Rapid City Police Department, said any official details would come through federal channels. No announcements have yet been made.
However, temporary flight restrictions issued by the FAA around Rapid City Regional Airport and nearby areas—including Keystone—signal “VIP movement” beginning at 11:15 a.m. today and ending the morning of July 4, adding fuel to the speculation.
