Rapid City Police are searching for 18-year-old Jaxon Jewett in connection with a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon at a residence on the 100 block of Signal Drive in the Star Village neighborhood. Officers responded just before 4 p.m. and found an adult male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the Star Village neighborhood, which police describe as a focal point of crime reduction efforts.
“With Star Village being a hot spot, this is our number one focal area right now,” according to Lt. Kelvin Masur of the Rapid City Police Department.
According to Crime Reduction Program Manager Mark Eisenbraun, officers have responded to 49 violent crimes in Star Village since the beginning of 2025.
“We’ve been focusing a lot of attention on Star Village for months now—not just on crime and violence, but also the physical decay and disrepair,” Eisenbraun noted.
Just one week prior, officers responded to another shooting in the same neighborhood on Kellogg Place.
Jewett remains at large and is facing charges of attempted murder. Authorities warn he may be armed and should not be approached. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact RCPD at (605) 394-4131.
