An 18-year-old Rapid City woman was arrested Thursday evening after police located a stolen pickup and say she fled before being found in a nearby apartment.
Officers spotted the stolen vehicle around 6:55 p.m. in a parking lot on Atlas Street. When they approached, the driver allegedly tossed a bag from the window and sped away, driving through the lot and off-road before abandoning the truck after striking a guard rail.
Witnesses reported the vehicle had passed a nearby playground at high speed while children were present. Police later located the suspect, identified as Jessina Lefthandbull, inside an apartment.
The discarded bag was found to contain methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Lefthandbull was arrested and booked into the Pennington County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, drug offenses, second-degree eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a valid license, and several outstanding warrants.
