President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Mount Rushmore on July 3 as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.
The White House announced the event, called “Rushmore 250,” as part of its broader Freedom 250 series running from June 24 through August 11. The Mount Rushmore celebration will feature fireworks, military honors, and family activities.
Governor Larry Rhoden said it is an honor to welcome Trump to South Dakota, while U.S. Sens. John Thune and Mike Rounds also plan to attend. Trump previously visited the monument for a July 4 celebration in 2020.
Attendance at the July 3 event is limited, with about 4,000 tickets distributed through a public lottery. The fireworks display was approved following an agreement between the state and the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Trump is also expected to be in Medora, North Dakota, on July 1 for the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library.
