At approximately 11:30 p.m. on July 2, Rapid City police responded to reports of a white SUV dragging a metal mailbox under its bumper on E. North Street. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot at 525 E. North Street, where they found the mailbox’s mail had ignited from friction. The driver, 44-year-old Amy Jones of Rapid City, showed signs of impairment. After a DUI investigation, Jones was arrested for DUI (2nd offense), Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, and Driving Under Suspension. She was transported to Pennington County Jail.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 5, Rapid City police observed a Black Ford Mustang speeding on W. Omaha Street. A license plate check revealed the registered owner, 30-year-old Alexander Hodge of Rapid City, had five active warrants. When police attempted a traffic stop, Hodge fled at high speed, leading police to end the pursuit for safety. Later that day, officers located Hodge at his workplace and arrested him for the five warrants and Aggravated Eluding from the earlier incident. He was transported to Pennington County Jail.
At approximately 10:40 p.m. on July 5, Rapid City police observed a black car run a stop sign at E. Adams Street and N. Maple Avenue. When the vehicle failed to stop, police pursued and used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention to halt it in the 300 block of East North Street. The driver, 20-year-old Tesean Richards of Rapid City, was arrested for charges including Obstruction, Driving without a Valid License, Underage DUI, Failure to Obey Traffic Signal, Stop Sign Violation, Second Degree Eluding, Open Container, and four warrants. The passenger, 21-year-old David Byington of Oglala, was arrested for Obstruction and Open Container. Both were taken to Pennington County Jail.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. on July 7, Rapid City police responded to an assault report at 1610 Caregiver Court. Two victims stated they were parked when an unknown male attacked them before fleeing northwest on foot. A Pennington County Sheriff’s deputy used a drone to locate a suspect hiding in a ravine south of Edinborough Drive. Police detained the individual, identified as 19-year-old Mikael Fox of Rapid City, who was positively linked to the assault. Fox was arrested on charges of two counts of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Entry of a Motor Vehicle, Impersonation to Deceive Law Enforcement, and two outstanding warrants, and was taken to Pennington County Jail.
