The Rapid City Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve a 3% salary increase for all non-union city employees, following a brief delay in the decision.
The vote had been postponed from the June 2 meeting due to discrepancies in the reported number of affected employees. The delay drew criticism from some city staff, especially after the council approved raises for its own members at the June 16 meeting.
Councilman Rod Pettigrew acknowledged receiving frustrated messages from employees over the postponement and emphasized that the delay was not due to opposition to the raise itself, but rather a need for clarification. “None of us intended to vote against it—we just wanted to make sure we had the right information,” he added.
The approved raise will take effect for all eligible non-union city employees in the coming pay period.
