A 54-year-old woman is in custody after allegedly setting a fire at a home in central Rapid City.
Amy Couture was arrested and was charged with second-degree arson during her initial appearance in 7th Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon in connection with the incident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saint Charles Street Monday. Rapid City Police say security footage captured a tan SUV—believed to belong to Couture—leaving the area shortly after the fire began.
Authorities also report that Couture had allegedly sent threatening messages to a resident of the home prior to the blaze. Fortunately, no one was inside at the time, and three pets were safely evacuated.
The Rapid City Fire Department released video showing a column of thick, dark smoke rising from the scene as firefighters arrived.
The investigation is ongoing.
