The Sturgis City Council has approved contracts for two significant enhancements to the city’s airport, part of a $6 million improvement plan that includes construction of a new terminal and a parallel taxiway. With federal funding covering the bulk of expenses, the city will only contribute approximately 3% of the total cost.
Western Construction Inc. of Rapid City secured the taxiway project with a low bid of $3.51 million.
American Contracting and Consulting of Belle Fourche won the terminal construction contract with a bid of $280,585.
Local shares for both projects, if needed, will be drawn from designated airport capital improvement funds, ensuring minimal impact on other city resources. The upgrades aim to boost infrastructure and improve service at the regional transportation hub.
