Rapid City police arrested 10 drivers for driving under the influence between 8 p.m. June 25 and 8 a.m. June 29th.
Among the most notable incidents was a June 25 crash in which a pickup truck struck two parked vehicles, a residence and a road sign before becoming disabled. Police arrested 40-year-old Christopher Taylor of Rapid City on charges including DUI, open container, driving under suspension and three counts of hit-and-run.
In a separate crash early June 26, officers responded to a collision at Catron Boulevard and Sheridan Lake Road and found a damaged vehicle parked nearby. The driver, 30-year-old Colton Jordan of Rapid City, was arrested for DUI, hit-and-run, driving under suspension and failing to surrender a suspended license.
Later that day, officers investigating a rollover crash near Skyline Drive and Flormann Street determined the driver was a juvenile who showed signs of alcohol impairment. The juvenile was referred to the appropriate channels of the juvenile justice system.
On June 27, police responded to a disturbance at a Jackson Boulevard business involving an intoxicated man who allegedly drove away and returned to the parking lot. Officers arrested 46-year-old Tana Tallon of Rapid City for third-offense DUI, disorderly conduct and open container in a motor vehicle.
With Fourth of July celebrations approaching, police are urging residents to plan ahead and designate a sober driver if alcohol is involved. The week leading up to Independence Day is traditionally one of the busiest of the year for the department, and additional officers will be on patrol looking for impaired drivers.
