The South Dakota Department of Health has announced updated income guidelines for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program, that go into effect today.
WIC is a federally funded nutrition program that provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals to health services for eligible pregnant and postpartum women, infants and young children at no cost.
To qualify, household income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty level. Under the new guidelines, a family of four may earn up to $61,050 annually and remain eligible for benefits.
Families can check eligibility and apply online through the South Dakota WIC program or schedule an appointment with a local WIC office.
The Department of Health encourages eligible families to take advantage of the program’s nutrition and health resources, noting that WIC is an equal opportunity provider.
