South Dakota will play a key role in shaping the future of public safety communications after SDLETS Director Kelli Erickson was elected President of NLETS, the International Justice and Public Safety Network, during the organization’s annual meeting June 23-25 in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Erickson oversees the South Dakota Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (SDLETS), which provides secure information sharing among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Her election places a South Dakota leader at the head of the nationwide network that enables the exchange of critical criminal justice and public safety information across all 50 states, U.S. territories and international partners.
“I am honored and humbled by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me,” Erickson said, noting NLETS’ vital role in connecting law enforcement and public safety agencies nationwide.
Erickson has served NLETS in several leadership positions, most recently as First Vice President and Second Vice President. NLETS CEO Frank Minice said her election reflects the respect she has earned nationwide and highlights South Dakota’s expertise in public safety communications.
NLETS supports the secure exchange of information ranging from driver’s license and vehicle registration records to criminal history and other mission-critical public safety data. SDLETS is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
