Firefighters from several agencies responded Monday morning to a structure fire at Jalapeños Grill in Hot Springs, prompting evacuations and traffic disruptions as crews worked to contain the blaze.
According to reports from the scene, the fire began in the restaurant’s kitchen before spreading into the attic. As conditions worsened, firefighters ordered an evacuation while crews continued efforts to prevent the fire from extending further through the building.
Heavy congestion around the area led authorities to temporarily close U.S. Highway 18 near the restaurant. Motorists were asked to avoid the area and use University Avenue and Highway 385 as alternate routes.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response.
Emergency personnel remained on scene through the day, monitoring hotspots and working to fully secure the area.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released information regarding the extent of damage to the restaurant.
Additional information is expected as the investigation continues and officials assess the impact of the fire.
