Governor Larry Rhoden announced the Trump Administration has awarded $150,418 to the South Dakota Highway Patrol to support its 287(g) partnership with ICE.
The funding will help cover personnel, equipment and technology costs for the program, which currently includes 40 state troopers. Officials say troopers have assisted in more than 204 immigration-related arrests involving individuals unlawfully present in the U.S.
The partnership also includes the Department of Corrections and South Dakota National Guard. State officials reported 25 inmates have been transferred to ICE custody, while National Guard members have helped process 807 deportation cases since last fall.
Rhoden said the partnership strengthens public safety and state-federal cooperation on immigration enforcement.
