Yard waste and recycling containers located adjacent to Fitzgerald Stadium will be temporarily removed to accommodate parking needs for the upcoming Dave Ploof Legacy baseball tournament.
City officials said the containers will be removed today and are scheduled to return on Monday, July 13. The temporary relocation is part of an agreement approved by the Rapid City Council in February to provide additional parking during four major summer baseball tournaments hosted at Fitzgerald Stadium.
The Dave Ploof Legacy Tournament runs July 9-12 and is one of four events prompting the temporary closure of the remote yard waste site. A final closure is scheduled for the State Tournament from July 26-Aug. 2.
During the closures, residents are encouraged to use the Nickel Street yard waste site, the Rapid City Landfill, or plan drop-offs before or after tournament dates. City officials note the removals have become an annual practice, marking the fourth consecutive summer the containers have been relocated to accommodate large tournament crowds.
