Pennington County officials say staff members, working alongside state and federal partners, continue to investigate a recent cybersecurity incident while taking steps to secure county systems and protect data.
In an update released this week, county officials said the investigation remains active, limiting what information can be shared with the public at this time.
“Pennington County staff, along with our state and federal partners, continue working to investigate the recent cybersecurity incident and ensure County systems and data are as secure as possible,” the county said in a statement.
Officials acknowledged that some county services remain temporarily limited as the investigation continues. While public questions remain, county leaders said they are unable to comment on specific details in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The county pledged to provide additional updates as information becomes available and can be verified.
Several commonly used county services remain operational, though some restrictions are still in place.
At the Treasurer’s Office, staff are available to answer questions related to vehicle titles and other treasurer-related matters. However, the office is currently unable to process vehicle registrations or accept payments. Residents can still renew vehicle registrations online through my605drive.sd.gov or by using available self-service kiosks.
The Auditor’s Office continues to offer early voting services, but staff are presently unable to process lien payments.
Meanwhile, the Register of Deeds Office remains able to accept real estate recordings. Residents seeking birth, death, or marriage certificates can obtain them online through VitalChek.com.
County officials encouraged residents to monitor official channels for the latest information regarding available services and recovery efforts.
For the most up-to-date information, residents can visit Pennco.org or follow the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office Facebook page.
County leaders emphasized that restoring services and maintaining security remain top priorities as the investigation moves forward.
