The Black Hills Military Coalition will celebrate four decades of honoring local service members and their families Friday with the annual McBride Military Appreciation BBQ at the Central States Fairgrounds.
The free event, now in its 40th year, welcomes active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their families from Ellsworth Air Force Base, the South Dakota National Guard, and across the region. What began as a small potluck has grown into a community tradition serving more than 500 military families each year.
Organizers credit the event’s continued success to local volunteers and sponsors.
The Military Appreciation BBQ will feature family-friendly activities, a traditional pig roast, and food provided by Fork Real Cafe and Wingnut BBQ.
Festivities will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Nerdy Nuts Pavilion at the Central States Fairgrounds.
