Economic development leaders are in Rapid City for the Centennial Summit: The Future of Economic Development, an event focuses on the region’s economic future while recognizing key milestone anniversaries.
Mayor Jason Salamun stressed the importance of helping residents understand how major development projects benefit them personally, rather than relying solely on economic impact figures and financial projections.
Salamun said successful community growth requires both vision and values, noting that community values should serve as “guardrails, not roadblocks” for development efforts. He also acknowledged that large economic development projects can create divisions within communities when concerns about public trust and community benefits are not adequately addressed.
